You guys, you really need to read Shades of Grey, by Jasper Fforde.

I am so serious. It is imperative that you read this book.

Imperative.

The premise is that hundreds of years in the future, humans have all but lost their ability to see colour, and your social status is decided by what colours you can see, Violets being the schmanciest, and Greys being the poor peasant scum. Eddie Russett is sent to the Outer Fringes to learn some humility, and, long story short, gets thrown into some serious shit.

I’m on page 369 out of 432, and sleep be DAMNED, I’m finishing it tonight!

It’s really brilliant. If you like the kind of stuff written by Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, you’ll love it.
